Just looked at some profiles of new members today. I noticed that one of them added some trips already, but according to his profile, no photos were uploaded. Or at least, he hadn't ticked the sign where he was happy to show them in his gallery probably?
Anyway, when looking at his trips and activating the tripmap, I could see his photos. I guess this is meant to be this way? Otherwise, what is the use of not showing them in the gallery?
Now that's a good question-had to go and double check some things to see how this is actually done.
To be clear, ticking the box 'Tick this if you want this photo to show in your photo gallery.' does not mean others can't see the photo if they have the direct link, it's just not possible to find the photo directly through your public gallery (which is how most people view the photos). One reason for this is that as someone who is keeping a blog, I might want an image other than a photo to be uploaded (like a .gif for the header of my blog) so I want people to be able to see it, but I wouldn't necessarily want this showing up in my gallery. I've also seen it happen quite a few times that members don't want the photos showing in their gallery, but they happily include them in their travel blog or diary.
The same is true for the map as these photos won't show there unless they are 'mapped' to a certain spot (actually no photos will show there until mapped, but let's leave that aside for now). Interestingly enough though, I just tried to map a photo that was not public and it doesn't show up in the list of photos to map, so I'm not sure I understand how this could have happened. Can you send me the link to the profile in question? Was it actually showing on the map, or as part of a blog entry that is mapped to a spot on the map?
That said, it obviously needs clearer wording on some level
It perfectly made sense to me.
Anyway, I've send you a PM with some details about this new member, maybe you can find him because searching for what I think is his membername didn't work out.
Wow, can't believe you are the first to spot this bug Michael! Upon closer inspection, it's the member profile page that is messed up and has been for a long time I'd suppose It wouldn't show any photos if the user has unticked the option to allow them to be featured.
Fixed now; thanks for the heads up!!
LOL, glad I finally made a positive contribution to TP
Ah, don't be so hard on yourself; you've been helping out greatly - don't think we haven't noticed !!
Was being a bit sarcastic again....
