Useful link Holly; a friend of mine was asking whether this was possible a while ago and I told her no :)

Back to syncing your ipod in internet cafe's. Wouldn't what katyvose1 mentioned stop you from actually managing to get new songs on your ipod? If I plugged into an internet cafe in say Sydney, the itunes on that computer would most likely already be synced with someone else's ipod. That would kick up the security feature where it says the two don't match and would I like to pair with the new itunes. Doing so would delete everything on the ipod, right? I'm not sure there's much benefit to removing several gigs worth of music to add the new cd you just bought earlier that day, or is there a way to do this?

You can always download songs onto your ipod from the computer without deleting anything. Assuming that you have turned on the "manual" feature, you shouldn't encounter a problem with loosing any music from the ipod or "synching" the ipod to itunes. It is when you want to get songs onto your computer without adding everything from the ipod that you encounter a problem and need to use the "senuti" link I mentioned earlier.

If sushi hooked up his computer at a cafe in Sydney, and assuming that the computer had itunes, he could download the mpgs from his cds onto the computer's itunes and then switch his playlist. Of course, with only 8mg of space, he would have to wipe the ipod clean to put on a new set of 8 mg. Or he could just keep his favorite songs on the ipod, delete the ones he's bored with and copy over the new ones. This can all be done manually, but it is very important that you remember to turn off auto-sync. I would suggest that he have all his mgs backed up at home so they are waiting for him when he gets home. : )

Another thought is to invest in an ipod with more memory if its financially possible (they are available up to 80 mgs). His ipod can also be used as a hard drive for digital photograhy. This way you can have ALL the music and still space left over for loads of pictures. Just a thought.

If you are considering a new ipod, at least wait till after Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Apple is set to launch a whole new collection of something and rumour has it, it will be ipods, perhaps with a touch screen a la iphone

Was never aware you didn't have to write over your whole collection when plugging it in if set to manual. Definitely good to know!!
