Hello,
My mother is going to Lucca in Tuscany for a week in mid-October. Her sisters are planning the trip, but as they are a bit crazy she still had quite a few questions. One of them is what kind of clothing she should bring for that time of year? Another is does anyone know how easy it is to get around this particular area - there have been mixed reports so far? And is there anything else that she should bring with? Thank you very much for your help!

Here is some info weather wise for Florence area. I would think the same weight of clothing as in Iowa City in October. http://www.aboutflorence.com/weather-in-Florence.html

Getting around issue. Yes you could take buses or trains from town to town however Tuscany would be lovely to drive a car about that time of year. Autumn is when vineyards are busy harvesting & in full swing production mode. It would be cool too see that and may not be possible if you do not have a car. I personally would say your mom and her sisters would have a blast driving around the area more than if they took a tour for instance.

Power convertor, Rain coat & buy an umbrella there and warm socks should do.

Hi,
October here, in this area and I mean Lucca, is very good, not so much cold, so all will be perfect.

You can visit Florence and pisa too, not so far from Lucca and there are nice place in mountain near Lucca too.
