i will automatically pick East: China,Japan...![]()
I loved Japan, but it is the most expensive of all these places so you would have to take that into account. I loved SE Asia too and 3 months is a good amount of time in this region. I can't speak for India and Nepal. ![]()
If it was my first trip to Asia it would be Southeast Asia no question.
If it was my second trip and wanted a bit more adventure, it would be India.
That is such a hard question. I absolutely loved Thailand but I also want to visit all the other places. Can i do a month in each please???? ![]()

Cant agree more. SEA with its mix of beaches, bustling cities and natural wonders was my introduction to backpacking, and im thinking of heading south to India/Pakistan with Nepal thrown in on my next trip, which hopefully would be 3 months or more....
Why not China + South East?
3 months is a lot, you can spend 1 month in China, and 2 months in the other countries.
If I can choose only a region, I would choose East, so China/Japan/South Korea. If I had to pick just one country in all of those 3 regions, it would surely be Myanmar...that is SEA a bit isn't it![]()
Absolutely would agree with the others saying SE Asia- especially for a first trip to Asia-
There are "well travelled", quite logical routes, and lots of other backpackers around, but also lots of opportunities to go quite far off the beaten path, depending on your comfort level and how adventurous you want to be. Also quite inexpensive -- your budget will go much farther than Japan...
I'd love to go to India and Nepal, and may well in the next couple years, but from what I hear this may be a slightly harder trip than say Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand. (plus there are also some safety/ political issues in Nepal to consider)
SOUTH.
