Hi guys, back in europe now after our south east asia / china antics...

My girlfriend and I are going to amsterdam in early september and are looking for a cheapish place to stay. We dont mind hostels, but we're not really into the whole "smoking and getting wasted" scene which seems to be quite common in europe - from what I've heard anyway.

I've been looking around the internet and so much seems to be fully booked. Any good recommendations from personal experience?

hey,

i'd recommend hotel brouwer http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/

i stayed there myself for a few nights and really liked the place. the location is great... at singel canal... with rooms looking on to the canal. 5/10 min walk from central station.

it's cheap too for a hotel... clean, good location and breakfast included in price :)

enjoy the dam

Hello Damo :)

I think there should be plenty of hostel beds still available for September.
My boyfriend stayed in a hostel in Amsterdam, last weekend, and he had only booked it a week in advance. His friend showed up with him, without having a booking, and they had a bed for him too.
Google hostels, Amsterdam and that should bring up a list. U can book them on the internet, in case u dont know.

Hi,

I can recommand bed&breakfast in A'dam.
My husband and I stayed a whole weekend in a typical Dutch house and the family was very friendly. They gave us maps and free museum passes, breakfast was excellent. It was a cosy place and not far from downtown.

The rates per night are the same as in a hotel but the service is more personal.

Ciao

I'd love a recommendation too for this bed & breakfast! We'll be in Amsterdam in September and we're looking in to various b&b's. We've found some on http://www.bedandbreakfast.nl/ but would love a personal recommendation.

I stayed in Dutch Design Artemis Hotel and is very comfortable. Although is a bit far away you can take the tram number 2 from city center. It is kind of a business hotel, so...no "smoking meetings"
