AndyB24 has indicated that this thread is about Ecuador

Hi guys, my gf is currently trying to join me in colombia from ecuador. She decided to leave things to the last minute as per usual, and this resulted in her overstaying her 90day visa by a few days.

The border people won´t let her leave without paying a $200 fine, she doesn´t have that much cash, banks won´t accept her cards or travellers checks, colombia won´t let her in without a leaving stamp from ecuador, and ecuador won´t renew her visa..

Is the fine legitimate? from what i´ve read, you have to wait up until the last day of your visa to extend it, or within a few days after..

If you look here (information coming from the US Ecuadorian embassy), you'll find it's legit. But if she has doubts, have her insist that she gets a receipt for the full amount.

She can get money from home maybe - Western Union or the like, if not, she has to be strong and direct and tell them unless she gets her money she can't pay her fine!! Unfortunately in some S.A. countries fines are heavy for foreigners. If she can't you will have to get money out for her and offer to pay it, make sure you have a receipt, and pay the fine as soon as you can. You may be able to get it refunded after by an embassy or something, explaining you don't know the rules and thought it was unfair. Be polite but firm!!

By pay it for her, I meant cross the border to where she is, sometimes I don't explain myself very clearly!! That is the last straw though, otherwise she will have to be strong and tell them!! Good luck!!

When i was in Argentina i got in contact with the British Embassy because my 3 month visa was coming to the end.I wanted to know my options for extending my stay.
2 of them i was aware of but i couldnt believe the 3rd.

1. Cross the border into another country then go back.
2. Go to immigration in Buenos Aires where i was and pay 100 pesos.
3. Outstay your visa and when you leave pay the 50 peso fine.

They then proceeded to tell me option 3 is not the official way but its what they believe to be true.CRAZY!!!
