I'm thinking about a trip to Vietnam In Nov/December of this year. Basically, I'm planning on going North to South (via train) or vice versa. Would love to see Angkor Wat if that's in the cards, and likely a day or two in Hong Kong on the way back to California. Any suggestions on train travel, places to see, and most importantly, is anyone going around that time that would like to join my solo expedition?
I did this last year. Flew into HaNoi, open tour bus to HCMC. I have plenty of photos in my gallery of this adventure. Send me a PM if you have VN or Angkor questions.
I just saw the Anthony Bourdain show and he referenced an island in Halong Bay that is owned by "Mr. Sang", sounds like it could be interesting, does anyone know what the island is called? and if there is a website or link to it?
3 or 4 days in Hanoi, go Sapa by train (3 or 4 days), come back to Hanoi an visit Halong Bai (3 days 2 nights).
Came back Hanoi and book multistop bus tickets. Visit Hue (2 or 3 days), Hoi An (2 or 3 days) , One week Nha Trang (if you like night life, beach, waterfalls,...), Mui - ne (2 or 3 days), Da Lat (3 or 4 days), HCMC (3 days- Cu-chi,...), Mekong Delta (4 days) and then(By bus)....Phonm Phen (if you like night life at least spend 7 days), then Siem Reap (Angkor Wat 3 days)... Etc, Etc

I am going to Vietnam in November this year and thinking of visiting the places you have mentioned but was only planning on spending about three weeks, do you think this is enough. We probably won't be spending a week in nha trang as we will be on the thai islands for four weeks later on and we hadnt decided on sapa.
Mike maybe you could let me know if you think sapa is a must? Do you know if there is any way of getting to sapa from laos, as thats were we will be entering vietnam from?
