I am the pie in the sky,

Thought we could use a theme song.

The bakeries here in Germany make cream cheese and apple pies.
I like those a lot.
They are best served with a good strong coffee, laced with cream.

Mel

Are they served by old people who can't send text messages?

While researching pie holidays, so the TP Pie Society knows when to celebrate, I have found two (count them - TWO) discrepancies!! Though, in and of itself, not a bad thing as it gives more opportunities to engage in revelry - but I think further investigation is warranted. I shall be contacting the "Holiday Selection Committee" in Washington, DC for verification of the true holiday dates. Until confirmation is received, the holidays are:

National Pie Day - January 23*
National Pie Day - December 1

National Cherry Pie Day - February 20
National Blueberry Pie Day - April 28
National Coconut Cream Pie Day - May 8
National Apple Pie Day - May 12
National Strawberry-Rubarb Pie Day - June 9
National Pecan Pie Day - July 12
National Raspberry Cream Pie Day - August 1
National Lemon Meringue Pie Day - August 15
National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day - August 20
National Peach Pie Day - August 24
National Strawberry Cream Pie Day - September 28
National Boston Cream Pie Day - October 23
National Bavarian Cream Pie Day - November 27

National Pumpkin Pie Day - Novermber 21
National Pumpkin Pie Day - December 25*

*Denotes most frequently found reference to the correct holiday.

The types of pies for particular dates and countries, depend on which fruits are in season, dont they?

Come to think of it, maybe it's Shoo-Fly pie. Makes more sense than a pie made from insects in loafers.

Shoo-Fly pie is named such because flies were drawn to the molasses. It's basically a sugar (molasses, brown sugar) filling between two crusts. A bit of vinegar and baking soda are added to "fluff" the sugars during baking. If you like sweet - Shoo-Fly pie is just that. I've had it once and I liked it - I was also about 10 so anything made of mostly sugar was a good thing. Oh wait, anything made mostly of sugar is still a good thing.

Katherine - Cool Whip???? (I understand. My mother made a Jello salad with Manderin orange slices, orange Jello and Cool Whip. It's a midwestern thing.) ;)

10... ???? oh my lord! Since you were around in the 1700's... that would make you.... OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

After looking at the list, no these are not always in season. Cherries are not in season in February, Pecans not in June, Apples aren’t ready in May. I'm not overly sure if Blueberries are in season by the end of April but I’m sure someone else could shed some light on this... preferably someone really old who has come and gone with the blueberries!
