What is the easiest/best way to set up a bank account in UK, before I leave NZ to live in the UK.
Also, what is the most simple/cheapest way to transfer some NZ$ to a friends bank account in the UK in the meantime? I'm probably talking about £1,000, as I am seriously worried about the falling NZ$
Any advice welcome
For convenience sake, I'd use a travel company who can do this for you before you leave

For the money transfer, I would use Paypal. Get yourself an account and your mate in the UK too. You can pay money from your NZ bank card into your PayPal account and then send it to you mates account. They can then withdraw it to the UK bank account. You can do this for up to $500 US dollars a month.
Will Paypal not sting me or my mate for any fees to transfer money then? If thats the case then that is great.
I wouldn't be optimistic about getting a good exchange rate from PayPal, though I have no direct experience to go on. For sums of 1000 pounds upwards I would have expected the specialist currency dealers to be best. I've had good experience with HIFX (www.hifx.co.uk) and I've also heard good things of CurrencyDirect.
my boyfriend uses www.tranzfers.com to transfer money between NZ and UK accounts. they're pretty good and you get email alerts when the exchange rate has changed dramatically.
