Travel Forums North America Minimum age for hotels?

My friend and I are 15 and are going to California, just the both of us, to see some friends...
We're going to be in Saratoga, and plan on staying there for 2 nights with my boyfriend, then we're all to drive down to LA together. Problem is, we'd be needing a hotel in LA, and I'm feeling doubtful that hotels would let 15 year olds stay there...

I suppose a last resort could be youth hostels. Actually that sounds better... but I'm not sure if there would be enough privacy? For instance what if my friend or I were to get it on? Haha... Feel fee to tell me what's up.

With most hotels in the US, you have to be 21 to make a reservation. Kinda silly when a person is considered of legal ate at 18, but nonetheless, 21 it is. If a hostel isn't your thing, you can also try a bed and breakfast.

Most Bed & Breakfasts cater to an older clientele and a couple of 15 year olds would certainly raise some eyebrows and possibly a call to the police.

Most hotels will take a reservation over the phone and hold it with a credit card number. But, once you walk in, they will probably ask for ID and deny you the room. A youth hostel would be your best choice, though they may also deny you a room because of your age. Not too many parents let their 15 year children travel alone without an adult meeting them at their destination. Most hostels have a minimum age requirement of 18. I agree that B&Bs will definitely be wary of young clientele.

Kyra,
I checked both hostels here in Vegas and they said you must be 18. I cannot see any hotel letting you stay at your age either. Short of camping, I think you are going to have a problem finding a place to stay.

Thanks for the answers...

I think I'll just end up staying at his house with him and my friend. It's also nice to know that our parents have been good friends for 25 years so they won't reject us from staying with them.
