planning a trip from italy to croatia and then back to italy
has anyone here done similar and want to share experiences
would like to go from triest to dubrovnik i guess bus is the best way and spend a couple of days in dubrovnik then up to one of the islands outside of split (suggestions for a laid back, lay on the beach, just relax maybe listen to some music at night vacation) then ferry back to italy to make my way to Rome
I will help you how to get to Dubrovnik but from Trieste there is not a direct line connection to Dubrovnik.
From Trieste ( I live in Italy and these schedule is reliable ) you have a regular bus connection to Rijeka (Fiume in Italian) . Rijeka is the biggest port in Croatia. Bus goes 6 times a day to Rijeka starting from Trieste’s bus terminal. The first is at 08,30 a.m and the last one at 19.15 (direct). It takes about two hours and half from Trieste to Rijeka.
From Rijeka you have a bus to Dubrovnik and it takes 12 hours to Dubrovnik. I think you should take the one at 22.30 and arrives in Dubrovnik next day at 10,51 a.m . It stops at Split on the way to Dubrovnik.
There is a ferry service from Rijeka to Dubrovnik but it takes 20 hours. If you are interested check this web site : http://www.jadrolinija.hr/ see this map http://www.croatiatraveller.com/ferries/CoastalMap.htm
If you have time by ferry boat is much more interesting.

Hi, if you are still not sure which islands to visit while you're in Croatia, go to
There you can find lots of free videos of Croatian islands and beaches, as well as other travel destinations. And the best thing is that they are recorded by pople who have been there, so they are very realistic.
I did this trip in the fall. I flew into Trieste and then took a bus to Opatija and spent a night there. The next night, I took an overnight ferry from Rijeka down to Hvar. Spent a night in Hvar.. and then took a ferry to split and caught a bus (practically across the street from where the ferry comes in) and took a bus down to Dubrovnik. I then flew from Dubrovnik to Zagreb (very inexpensive).. spent a night in Zagreb.. then went to Ljubljana.. spent two nights there and then off to Trieste. It was a great circle back to Trieste. Please let us know what you decide to do!
copying that info and seeing how i can fit it in
i am not, however going back to trieste
from split i take a ferry across to ancona and a train to rome
Going back to Italy over the Adriatic and flying out of Rome sounds like a great idea! Have fun!
