Three of us are planning to travel from Phukhet (South Thailand) to Singapore via Malaysia on land during 30 August to 3 September. We may have about five days including the travel time in Malaysia. Can anyone advise us on the following.
We want to see the true Malaysian lifestyle while travelling and to see one of the highlands with natural beauty, and a beautiful eastern beach.
With the above possibilities I request the members to suggest us a plan.
Suggest also the places where we can stop for overnight stay and sightseeing. And kindly advise about three-bed, budget accommodations/hostels, (around US$10) in the stop over points.
Thank you all in advance and I will get back again once I get some responses
Kerala, South India
Please take note that Aug 31 is National Day holiday in Malaysia, and is a holiday period, and it is also the end of school holidays, so you may find everything very crowded and the roads very busy.
for a highland, I suggest Cameron Highlands or Frasers Hill.
For an east coast beach, try Cherating in Pahang.
As you only have 5 days you don't have time to go to an island.
Plenty of accommodation around US$10, backpackers places or cheap Chinese hotels.
5 days to do Thai-Msia-Spore spells craziness to me. It will be such a rush. I advise you to just enjoy Phuket and fly to Singapore straightaway.
Unless of cause, you and your mates don't mind splitting up to the 3 different countries. Doing so, you all can exchange personal experiences in the different countries. It's like living in someone's else trip!
Since you are coming down from the north (Thailand) to the south... I would suggest to take the train or bus crossing the Kelantan beautiful hilly route towards the east coast. Try to get on the bus from either Kedah or Perlis to Kota Bharu (wakaf bharu station). Along the road, you'd find amazingly beautiful up hill and downhill scenery towards your next destination. From Kota Bharu, get on a taxi first thing in the morning, to a jetty called Merang which will take you to either Perhentian Island or Redang Island. I recommend a 3 days 2 nights for islands activities, to really enjoy it. Then, take the next train before 6.30pm direct to Singapore from Kota Bharu station. Here is the local train websites for your travel planning. www.ktmb.com.my
Okay, hope this'll help!
p/s: we have a gathering on the 15th of August in KL... if you can make it... you're welcome to join us... Venue: Finnegan's KL , time : 6.00pm
