hi friends,

I will be in Austria from 11th -15th September 2007 and will be based in Vienna. Can u suggest some good hostels in Vienna, which have a decent reputation.

I have taken a Eurail pass for Germany and Austria and i would like to travel to Salzburg on one day and then Innsbruck on next day and return back to Vienna. I will try to leave early in the morning so that i get enough time for sightseeing. Can u suggest the major highlights of Salzburg and Innsbruck which i should concentrate, considering the fact that i will have time from morning till evening in each of these cities(10AM to 6PM)

Thanks in advance for ur advise
Arif

Wombats City Hostel - The Lounge

Very cool hostel. Right outside the historic center, but the Westbahnhof is just a block away. Schonnbrunn Palace and the Hapsburg Palace are amazing in Vienna! Also St. Stephens Catherdrial is great (go to the top of it!) And you have to buy Mozart-Kuglen chocolate in Austria!! And the Viennese Coffee!

The train to Salzburg is about 2.5 hours. There is a palace at the top of the main mountain in Salzbug which is neat (climb the trail there...its worth it for the wonderful views of the Alps!) Mozarts birthhouse is in Salzburg which is neat to see (not too exciting, but has info on him). His wife is also burried in Salzburg (but I forget where). Its a shame he died broke because no one knows where the greatest composer is burried...

I've never been to Innsbruck but I heard its great!!!

Austria is my favorite country!

Thanks Rob for ur valuable suggestion:)

I too had zeroed in on the Wombats City hostel, now that u also have seconded it, it would go for it.

I will try to catch the first train to Salzburg so that i get enough time to enjoy this charming town.

Thanks again
Arif

When in Austria and Germany, be sure to go to the cafes, at 4PM any day, for coffee and cakes. It is traditional.
However, many people only do it on Sundays now, because eating cakes every day is unhealthy.

Be sure to try the Black Forest Cake.
I dont want to post it in Germany, in case I spell it wrongly.
Maybe somebody with better spelling will translate.
