Im going up to visit a buddy at Davis in the next couple of weeks. Anyone have any suggestions of anything to do there, besides leave and go to SF? lol

The jellybelly factory (voted best single tour of a factory anywhere in the US) is just a few miles west of Davis in Fairfield--and there's also a Budweiser plant that gives tours. Just west of there about 10 miles is Napa Valley and all the wineries. (Head a little farther west to Sonoma for the nice central square and slightly cheaper wine tasting adventures.) And just south of Fairfield is an amusement park called Marine World. Right next to this they also have a horse racing track.

Earlier in the year (I think in July) they do NASCAR racing at Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) just south of Sonoma--but you won't be able to see this right now. They may have other races going on, though.

Also, right along the water that runs south of the highway over by Infineon is where they raise the oysters in the bay. I think there's a tour for this also--I think they call them "Goose Bay Oysters" or something like that.

Farther west of here is San Rafael and the Muir Woods are a little ways south.

If you want to head east, Old Sacramento is supposed to be pretty good. And if you drive the three hours or so east, you can reach Lake Tahoe and Reno. The casinos are on the south edge of the lake right next to the California-Nevada state line.

Don't know if it runs all year or not, but they have a great farmer's market. Also it's a fun place just to walk around downtown and see the locals and all. Lots of good bands and such downtown as well. On campus they have a great touring venue and you might be able to see some good things, theatre or music, coming through there too.

I live in Davis and its awesome! Just walking around looking at shops can be fun but there are tons of great places to eat. for great burgers go to burgers and brew, if you want Mediterranean go to Sam's, for thai there is sophias (the chicken Laap is great) there are great salads at Plutos and for coffee in the morning or whenever you can't beat Mischka's its got a european feel to it. Also wednesday nights and sat mornings there is a huge farmers market. Other things to see might include the Domes, a university housing project that took a very interesting and environmentally friendly outlook. Also, for live music or dj and a young crowd check out Delta of Venus coffee shop. If you want a quiet stroll nothing is more beautiful that the arboredum, and if you need to know where any of these things are just ask, most people are local (except on sat when people come from everywhere for the market).

Yes, I really should have mentioned Davis itself. The university is on the west side and the town on the east. It's a small, quaint town that has some places to walk around and a few good restaurants, the two best being the Sushi place (can't remember the name) and Little Prague, both on 6th street.
