Each photo is automatically resized to three different sizes (if possible - of course smaller photos can't be 'upsized'). The smallest is 75x75px and by adding XS to the gallery URL you can see it - your gallery for example.

Allowing individual size setting is probably more than we will ever introduce, but of course everyone can upload pictures in their preferred size and the original can then be linked to directly in that size.

You can resize the image relatively easily before uploading. I guess travellerspoint assumes everyone already has the software and knows how to do this, but I'm not sure that's always true.

If you haven't already figured out how to do this, here is one option (there are other programs and methods of course):

You can download a freeware program called IrfanView.

http://www.irfanview.com/

Once you download and install this, use main menu option: /File /Open to open a photograph. Then under the Image menu item, one of the options is to Resize. You can select 800 x 600 (it is one of their standard resize options). Then do a /File /Save As from the main menu to save your resized photo in a smaller size. (You can also Rotate and Crop using IrfanView, which is also handy for editing your photo's before uploading. Crop is under the Edit menu).

Once you get comfortable with using IrfanView, Try using Batch Conversion Process under the /File menu. One caution, after selecting Advanced Options to get to the Resize option, make sure you click "Preserve Aspect Ratio".

Good luck!

We don't actually assume everyone knows how to do it, that's why it will work without resizing the photos, since we actually resize the photo automatically after it's been uploaded (3 or 4 different sizes + we store the original). However, to be able to upload more photos per month it's smart to resize before uploading since a photo will generally go from being around 2MB to 100KB, giving you the option to upload hundreds (if not thousands) of photos each month, instead of around 12 at full size.

There's some pretty good FAQs on the photography area, including this one on how to resize.

Sorry, you're correct - Travellerspoint does resize for you if needed, but it does use a lot of your monthly capacity! I guess I assumed everyone is as much a photo hog as I am. (I did poll my readers though, so far they like the mix of pictures and text - but I do upload a lot of pictures, not nearly as many as I take, but a lot ).
