Oh and lm switching allegiances to Scotland for tomorrows match!!

And New Zealand did a South Africa on the Scots To be fair, Scotland fielded a second-string squad and the All Blacks clearly had an off-day (they shouldn't wear that strip again!). Dan Carter had a miserable day with the boot, really. But yay for Doug Howlett!

So Heather, think Ireland can pull it off against Argentina and sneak into the quarters?

Jun - if the rugby gods are smiling on us next Sunday - but with the given form lm not holding out much hope! I will still be keeping everything crossed for Ireland though!!

Poor old Scotland!

We did better than South Africa! Thrashed them 42-0, as opposed to SA's measly 36-0. OK, it was against the reigning champions. But not this year

Looks like we might even give the All Blacks a run for their money

LOL Nice try

Wales V Fiji - what a classic. From an England fans point of view this WC is disappointing and i don't expect us to beat Australia, but it's great to see teams like Tonga, Fiji really having a much bigger impact on the tournament than in previous world cups.

Sorry about Ireland, Heather. I didn't expect them to get beaten by a 15-point margin. But kudos to Argentina, and I'm pleased for Fiji as well.

The quarter-final match-ups:

6 October:
QF1: Australia v England, Marseille (1400 BST)
QF2: New Zealand v France, Cardiff (2000 BST)

7 October:
QF3: South Africa v Fiji, Marseille (1400 BST)
QF4: Argentina v Scotland, Stade de France, Paris (2000 BST)

Cheers Jun - but with the given form l didnt expect a win - they showed a few signs of the form they played with during the 6 nations but it wasnt enough - the pumas were the better side!

Still the quarters should have a few good matches!

No one can quibble that the better teams got through (ok Scotland & England only scrapped through).
Damn it I won't be able to watch anymore games - they should hold off for the next month until i get back.
My predictions are:

QF1: Australia v England, by 15pts
QF2: New Zealand v France, by 8pts

7 October:
QF3: South Africa v Fiji, by 40pts
QF4: Argentina v Scotland, by 21pts

Mind you i think the draw sucks, it should have been set out that NZ & Aus (the top two teams) could only meet in the final not semi-finals, SA get a way too easy run. France must be gutted letting the quater finals be played in Cardiff.

The match of the world cup will be the semi-final NZ v Aus, anyones game with NZ just edging Aus out (fingers crossed).
