- * Can anybody tell me what exactly the perhentian islands are like in terms of beautiful beaches, diving and remote-ness??**
ive been to many exotic places and someone told me that the perhentian islands are one of the best places to go in the world - what i need know is: are they more like south thailand (pretty crap) or cook islands (pretty lush)???
let me know what you guys think!!
Only thing to say is WOW!!! Absolutely stunning. I can't quite remember which one I stayed on now, there is a smaller and a larger island. Very very little to do except dive, which I did of course. I've dived in Koh Tao and Phi-phi but this was easily the most amazing crystal clear water I've ever been in. So:
Beautiful beaches 8/10 (only because there was only 2 accessible ones on our island, but still gorgeously breath taking)
Remoteness 100/10 (yes, i meant the 100, literally feel like your in the middle of nowhere!)
I hope this helps. there's very little else to mention, but, there are 2 islands... Maybe the other one is party central
Perhentian Island is not in Thailand but in fact it is on the east coast of Malaysia at the State of Terengganu. This island attracts a lot of divers because of the pristine corals reef that surrounds the archipelago of Perhentian Island. It is easily to spot the turtles on the waters especially in mid year since that's the season when the turtles will come and lay eggs in the coastal area of the main land.
The Perhentian Island consist of 2 common Island which is Perhentian Besar (large) and Perhentian Kecil (small). There is a large number of accommodation varies by your budget. Most favorite activity here is snorkeling and diving. You can even feed the fish near the shore line. The water is crystal clear and there are large numbers of corals.
Do not come in rainy season which is usually at the end of the year because of the sea condition is not very good and sometimes if it is too bad, you can't even reach the island.
Who said anything about them being in Thailand???
I prefer Sipadan or Layang Layang Island.
