I'm traveling to Singapore with my family in the first week of December for 5 days. While I've done a bunch of research already on things to do, I keep hearing others who've been there for vacation or resides there tell me that many of the tourist sites can be covered within 2 - 3 days. I also hear that there's nothing much to do.

I would appreciate some advice from travelers to and residents of SIngapore on any great spots to visit that are not as well known to tourists. Other than the city centre, I'm already including the following excursions:

Night Safari
Chijmes
Sentosa island
Dolphin Lagoon
Underwater world
MerLion
Orchard Road

Also, I know that you cannot chew gum, drink/eat on the public transportations, and spit. How about listening to the iPod on the public transportations or walking around on the streets?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I hope that's a joke cuz we're not THAT strict, lol. We have nothing against ipods or whatever.

Well, you've basically covered the major tourist attractions. Might want to consider a boat ride along the Singapore River and a visit to the Jurong Bird Park. Chinatown is interesting too. There's also Marina Bay, Bugis, Suntec City & VivoCity (shopping), the Esplanade, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay (restaurants, bars, pubs, etc). If you're into museums and all that, check out the Asian Civilisations Museum, National Museum of Singapore and a bunch more. I'm sure there's also a bus tour that takes you around Singapore.

If you have more time, perhaps venture into some of the heartland areas like Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio. The last time a friend came to visit, he had a specific purpose and I took him to visit the Changi Prison (we could only see it from the outside), as his grandfather had been imprisoned there during WWII. The Changi Chapel & museum are just nearby, worth a visit if you like history.

Don't forget to try out the food and all. Plenty of variety in hawker centres, food courts and the fancy restaurants.

If you haven't already, here's a website that might be helpful: Uniquely Singapore

December might be rainy, so just be warned.

Hi,

You can also try going to Johor Bahru. I believe it's the intersection of Singapore and Malaysia. It's just 30mins or 1 hour away from Singapore. Or you can opt to go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its just 5 hours bus ride from Singapore. You can see the petronas and KLCC mall.

That would be an alternative it you have 2 days to spare and have travelled much around Singapore. You can visit 2 countries at the same time on December.

Hope this helps!

hey,

i spent 4 days in singapore and my highlight of the visit was going to pualu ubin.

you can read about it here:
http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_see/isles_of_singapore/pulau_ubin.html

as soon as you get off the boat you can hire a bike and cycle around the island, which is what we done and it was great fun... a quick way to see all of the island...

i'd recommend it. enjoy singapore
