I'm looking to take the plunge and head over to Aus mid - late October. Not sure where yet. I'm going on my own, which is pretty !
So if anyone is going to be down under then, or might be looking for someone to start off their trip with, send me a message.
Also, any advice on where is best to start off in Australia? I'm planning on being there for a while. Got my WHV filled in and ready to go.
Okay at the time of the year you will arrive will be late Spring almost so I would advise packing lightweight clothing and probably enter Australia via the North, either Darwin in the Northern Territory or Cairns in North Queensland. They will be quite warm to hot at that time of the year and also warm nights. You could also pick up work at that time of the year in both places if you are prepared to get around and seek it out and are not fussy. This will also give you the chance to rake in some dollars to buy up more heavyweight clothing later on when you move South and into their autumn/winter. It will also be humid in both places I have mentioned but most accomodation obviously have air conditioners as do the backpackers and they have swimming pools. You can travel by air or bus from both places down South and if you wanted to go from one to the other you can fly from Darwin to Cairns I think or at least to Brisbane up to Cairns. From Cairns you can fly I think to Darwin or to Alice Springs and back up to Darwin. Once you are in either place you can then research where you want to go and you will get good advice on best and cheapest places if money is a problem. Have fun.
Thanks for the reply! I was under the impression it was spring/summer all over Aus during oct - feb. Doh! Glad I got that sorted out. I'm thinkin the weather will be better over there than it is back here in the UK that time of year, so all good.
Yeah, I won't be fussy about the work I do, I have heaps of experience in all kinds of jobs back here, so I'm hoping that will keep me in good stead. Just hope it will all be an adventure.
Thanks for replying, hope your well,
Maybe it's best to start up North and work your way down. You don't really want to be up the top when summer comes in December. If you are going to do the red centre, then you DEFINITELY should avoid doing it in summer: they have about 3 months on 46C there, and the flies!!!
my friend and i will be flying into Sydney in the middle of october and staying there for about a week then flying up to cairns and traveling back down to brisbane for about a month on and off buses for part of our gap year. we are currently on volunteer projects in south india. so if your still around sydney then idt be great to meet antother traveller! x
Gonna be in sydney around early/mid december.
But if your in Cairns late october or the red centre early november i'll be bumming around there.
I will be in oz for a month, starting end of nov in cairns and finishing in sydney on christmas day (after visiting various places as i go). If you recon that you may be in a similar place along the way, let me know. xox
im looking but im not going till next year or else id deffinantally go with you
Hey, i leave for Sydney on Nov 14th and arrive in Sydney on the 16th! So i'll be round and about and up for meeting lots of new people Alot of people are doing it by themselves so i'm sure if all of us lonely travellers stick together we'll be fine!! xx
