Hi all

Just started to think seriously about planning a 5/6 holiday to Oz in early 2009. Me husband and two kids 12 and 10. A good friend has just offered to lend us some money (interest free) to go early 2008 instead. I've saved up £6000 upto now but wanted to make this a holiday of a lifetime and don't really know how much we'll need. Will be stopping with family (free) in Sydney for probably about 3 weeks of the 5/6 but also want to tavel up the east coast stopping for say 2 nights in Port Stephen, Coffs Harbour and Bryon Bay then onto Surfers do theme parks (seen a pass for 3 of them over 5 days)
Then want to fly to Cairns for a few days and go snorkelling etc. So have no idea if £6000 will be enough and borrow the money for the flights and pay it back when we come home or save it before we go and wait till 2009.

Any ideas suggestions to any of the above will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know whether I can stand waiting till 09 having trouble sleeping now with all the excitement searching the internet is causing.

Hi Lily ;)
I would have thought £6000 was enough including flights! But not quite sure on your total length of stay.

We found apartments for £40 per night - sometimes more, sometimes less
Assuming 21 days (not incl. Sydney stay) at £40 = £840
Flights to Oz £600*4 = £2400
Total so far £3240
What's left? £2760 = £131 per day
Car hire & fuel should be less than £50 per day, leaving £80.
Might not sound much, but that's every day.
When we travelled our daily food allowance was £15 - for the four of us. And we managed it, by self-catering the majority of the time.
I think you're there or thereabouts already.

Ah. Should '5/6 holiday' say '5/6 week holiday' ?
