I am away to go to all 5 of those countries and the answer is a resounding yes.
I got it about 3 weeks ago and it cost £45 from the local hospital.

I also got Rabies (x3 jabs), Hep A and Typhoid if that helps.

When you off?

Hey Andrew!

Definitely check with the Docs at the travel clinic for the most recent information. But, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), proof of vaccination will be required upon entering Brazil if coming from either Peru or Bolivia. Boliva may require the certificate if entering from Peru.

Check the CDC Destinations page and click on the countries you plan to visit. Each country page will have the requirements for entry and recommended/required vaccinations listed.

Enjoy your trip! ;)

Hey,

I was at the doctors this mornin and he recommended 3 vaccinations for me:

Hep A + Typhoid,

Hep B

The 3rd injection was for 3 seperate diseases including Tetanus, i can't remember the other 2 and i've already give my prescription to the chemist.

He mentioned yellow fever, but i told him we'd be mostly sticking to the major cities within sth america apart from Peru.

We enter Rio de janeiro on 3rd November this year, then argentina then bolivia then peru and finally chile where we fly to auckland from santiago

Chances are your tetanus vaccination also covers diptheria and pertussis (whooping cough) or polio, though most combinations that contain polio also contain Hep B. Since you mention getting a separate injection(s) for Hep B, the tetanus/diptheria/pertussis combo is most likely what you received.

Your itinerary has you entering Brazil first and Chile last so you may not be required to show proof of YF vaccination along the way. If you make changes to the route where you enter Brazil after Peru or Bolivia, Brazil may be a stickler for the regs. Just something to keep in mind if you are thinking of rearranging your current schedule.

Hey!

The yellow fever vaccination will cost you around 45pounds, and the anti malarial it depends what you go for. If you are planning to go to the jungle in bolivia (which for your itinerary im guessing is your plan) and you dont think you´ll b there for more than a week, I reccomend that you go for malarone. Im using them now, and they are the best ones i have used. A treatment for 2weeks (one week in the jungle plus a week after) will cost you around 50pounds. Yes, you can find cheaper ones, but their secondary effects are awful, particularly for some people, so i wouldnt take the chance :D

have fun!

Ps. My trip is very similar to yours, apart from chile, that i went up north to the amazon and the only place they required the yellow fever certificate was when i entered brazil from peru in the amazon..

Hey Dublin,

As far as I know Bolivia is the only country that requires you to have the yellow fever vaccine before you are allowed to enter. That said, I travelled through from Peru through Bolivia overland and was not asked for show proof of vaccines once, nor in any other part of SOuth America.

I was a bit sick after the yellow fever vaccine, a bit fluey, but I'd recommend you get it if you are travelling into the jungle in Bolivia or Brazil. ;)

Hope that helps!
