Ive taken advice from a fellow Norn Irish person (cheers Neal!) who has suggested the following pubs:

WHITES TAVERN
DUKE OF YORK

and l have just remembered

THE SPAINARD
THE JOHN HEWITT

Im now in agreement with Neal - the Cathedral Quarter - around St Annes Cathedral - Donegal Street - is the most up and coming area in Belfast at the moment - its not quite (actually no where near) Temple Bar in Dublin but it is moving that way. The only thing is its NOT as close to the university area or the hostel area so people will have a longer walk - you are talking about 20 mins walk or there abouts - if its dry not a problem!

Any of those four bars listed are cool - nice chilled out - non pretentious - non dressy up - live music - log fire type bars. They are all very close to one another so we could visit all 4 in one evening!

So for Thursday 27th Dec l suggest we meet up in

THE JOHN HEWITT
51 Donegall Street
Belfast
BT1 2FH
Northern Ireland

If Rich et al are getting in to Belfast in the evening of 27th - then say 9 for 9.30pm to meet up. Rich you can park on Donegal Street - its free and at that time there should be plenty of space to park.

If anyone needs my contact number PM me! If not - these are the arrangements for 27th Dec. As for the next day - keep an eye on this thread people!!

It will likely be an afternoon meet - if anyone wants to meet up for lunch! Im suggesting MAGGIE MAYS home of one of the best Ulster Frys (this is cultural and everyone needs to try it - its our national dish!!!!) in the city and actually thee best Strawberry Milkshake - and its relatively cheap too!! Time can be arranged but maybe around 1pm or so and from that we can decide where or what we are gonna do next!

OK - that has some semblance of a plan me-thinks!!

I'm so unorganised.

I'm coming for 27th and 28th. That's the new plan.

I'll sort my shit out this week.

That's the update for now.

I can't wait to see you all by the way.

I'm not 100% sure about Thursday (there are aunts and grannies and the like to be visited - I think Neal has something like 35 first cousins!), but Friday and Saturday are a go! I have your number, Heather, so I'll text you to see where the TP gang is at.

And I love Maggie May's - they make the best chicken-broccoli bake (although coleslaw and mayo shouldn't be considered a salad ;) ).

okay so far we're still coming up for 29th, timewise depends on the buses, and we'll probably hang around and get into trouble until just after new year

You'd better stay real late on the evening of the 28th. I need to get you to spill all the details on Peru and Easter Island and stuff!

Mentioning that there may be some hecklers on the guided tour I was talking about has kicked Victoria into life so hard that it has now been formalised and there is even now an ad

  • **UPDATE***

December 29th, 2007: 12.30 - the small hours of the 30th or we all get arrested/run out of beer money.

Why pay to take a guided tour around Belfast by a local person when an English girl who has lived in Belfast for five weeks can take you around for free?

Now I have actually done some research so it is better than that sounds!...and I've road tested it on one group already so it can only get better the second time!

I'm already taking some people round so thought I would see if anyone else cared to join us? The tour will take in all four quarters of the city with history including the Industrial Revolution, the partition of Ireland and the Troubles. And because walking and talking is very thirsty work, and pubs are part of the fabric of the city (and of historical interest), there may be some beer stops...

We will start the tour at 12.30pm from outside the gates to Queens University on University Street and finish when everyone has had enough or ran out of beer money! Come on down and join us!

So here's my story morning glory

I arrive on the 29th around 9a.m. at Belfast International - so however much time it takes to get through customs, immigration, and all that crap, plus a little bit, and then I'm there (wherever there is). Giant's Causeway, walking tour of Belfast by an English gal, or hiking Cave Hill, I'm up for whatever.

I'm booked in to Arnie's Backpackers for the 29th and the 30th (didn't realize everyone else was booking into YHA:( )

See y'all there - unless of course you are invisible or something I'm not though, I look strangely like my pics and if that's not enough Nikki can show you who to run away from

(Sorry about going emoticon crazy - I think I must be going through withdrawal)

Ah K, you're a Midwesterner through and through!!!! It's been awhile since I have heard that line!!! ;)

Well, we've been sitting here waiting and waiting for the Belfast tickets to arrive... But, we see that the "Isa & Beerman Charity Fund" is sorely lacking sufficient funds... Woe is us... While all of you are having fun touring the city and enjoying pub grub, we'll be busy playing in Off Topic. Maybe everyone should wait a couple of weeks before visiting that forum again... Just a thought... We have to entertain ourselves somehow...

Have a great time and don't forget the cameras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And, the community-signed post card for Isa Manor - proof of the flocking!) ;)

Purdy: Could you arbitrarily pick some place that you all will be guaranteed to be at on the evening of the 28th (say between 19:30 and 20:00), so I can meet up? (Also, if plans change at the last minute: I won't have a phone, but might be able to read this thread, assuming there's some open WiFi to be found in Belfast.)
