We're getting married at the end of May next year and are planning a 3-4 day safari / 10 day beach honeymoon.
Does anyone have any advice as to the best place to go for Safari at that time of year as it seems that end May - early June is 'off' season in Kenya for example?
Has anyone been to Kenya/South Africa for safari at this time of year and do you have any recommendations for tour operators?
i think the first question you need to ask yourself is how much money you want to spend on your honeymoon? you will find everything and anything you want with the right amount of money.
may is a great time of year for southern africa as its right before winter starts, the game viewing is awesome and the crowds are low. you could do a couple days in a private game reserve along the kruger (there are several award winning ones) and then head over to mozambique for some fun in the sun. or you could fly out to the seychelles or mauritius for a gorgeous island adventure. you could also fly up to botswana for a couple days in the okavongo delta before hitting the beach. zanzibar is an incredible beach destination also with a very rewarding cultural experience.
if you are looking for a "package", it might be a good idea to find a travel agent specializing in africa who can tell you about all the different lodges/resorts...especially since you have a set date range.
On my own opinion I think Kenya is a nice place for honeymooners, I read an atticle on Daily nation newpaper about honeymoon in Kenya, Ngulia safari lodge in Tsavo, I think this can make a nice place for honeymoon, the couples (I guess they were from belgium) really enjoyed their time and infact they married in Kenya, at the wild, oh that was a nice experience. All in all in will depend with your budget and what you want, you can choose an operator, ask as many questions as possible and maybe they can organise a honeymoon for you be it beach or bush, but I would go for bush honeymoon. Either maasai mara, Amboseli, Samburu or Tsavo, but Tsavo and Maasai Mara comes first. I think May is low season in Kenya but I think the wild is still there, talk to your operator, they know better than us.
Will recommend All Seasons Safaris for you, their website is www.allseasonssafaris.com, our friends did a safari with them and they said it was awesome. Talk to them and ask questions. Congraturations on your weeding and Enjoy your honeymoon.
Congratulations for your forth-coming wedding and I wish you all the best.
I would recommend that you visit Kenya. May is low season here and the fact that the Lodges are not very full hence you get some privacy. All will depend on your budget since we have bothy budget and up-market accomodation.
Kindly note that sometimes cheap is expensive hence get accomodation that will not turn your happy moments into a night-mare.
