Hello all,

I may be looking at working in Bhutan for a year or so. Is there anyone who has been there and can tell me about the place? Better still, is there anyone out there who has lived and worked in the place?

The last I heard was that you need to be part of an organised tour group to get a visa.

A friend here in Vegas went last year and really enjoyed it. He has been to Nepal and India before, but Bhutan was special. Not near as many trekkers and a better experience. The problem is Bhutan's rules. You must be part of an organized tour and the cost are not cheap. Figure $200 per day. Bhutan wants upscale visitors, not the backpack set. I think your chance of being employed is not very good.

I have a mate there teaching at present and he reckons he can get me in. I think that I will be one of two Aussies working in the whole kingdom. It just seems like virtually no-one has been there.

Peter,
That would be a real adventure if you can pull it off. I hope this is an 'in writing' job offer. Most countries require a work visa along with your job offer. The other option; fly into Bhutan with a tourist visa and joining a tour group. Then work out the employment options while there. Good luck to you.
