Just wondered if any one knows if there is any way to get wifi while you travel to other countries!

That:s a pretty vague question. What "other countries" are you thinking of? You will probably find wireless internet pretty easy to find in developed countries. Many Starbuck type cafes around the world will usually let you use the internet if you buy some coffee. Here in Japan most hotels and hostels that I:ve been staying at have had some form of internet that I can use on my laptop. Developing countries might be a different story.
If you are just travelling though and don:t have a serious need for your own laptop, I would say leave it at home. I find it a real hassle travelling with one (I travel with one now for work), and I would never take it if I didn:t have to. Internet Cafes are very easy to find in just about any country in the world.

the hostel i stayed in in prague recently had wifi access, and i think more and more places are starting to offer it. i wouldn't bother travelling with a laptop though - it's just one more vaulable thing to worry about.

take a portable wireless router with you and make your own wifi...

Sorry for not being more clear. I'm talking about while I travel aka drive. especially in South America. I heard about a back pack on that can give you wifi any where. Does any one know if this works or any thing else that might do the same thing!?

Thanks all

sounds kind of crazy - that backpack thing. Wifi is just the broadcasting of an internet connection (close to microwave frequency). So somehow the backpack would need to be connected to the internet. The only way I see it doing that is either via satellite or a mobile-phone-network. So it's possible, but it sounds expensive..

Hello Watchdog:)

It was in the hostel I stayed in, in Berlin, and also the one I stayed in, in Naples.
I did not see it in any of the other places I have been, yet.
But as somebody else aready said, carrying around a laptop may not be worth doing. It creates more luggage and it is something u will have to lock up when u are not carrying it, to prevent from being stolen.
Internet access is everywhere and not expensive.
