Hi again

We are planning to go go by bus from Rio - Sao Paulo - Iguazu Falls. My boyfriend is keen to stop off somewhere along the Costa Verdi between Rio and Sao Paulo.

Has anyone done this before and where would they suggest as being the best place to stop?

I assume there are regular buses between these areas, can someone also confirm that this is the case.

Many thanks

Sophie

Paraty or Ilha Grande would be ideal to stop off at (i think). Thats what ive read anyway and other travellers seem to think the same. We arrive in Rio in a few weeks and plan to stop off at the above places on our way to iguazu falls. I could let you know if they are ideal as i imagine iin a few weeks.....

As suggested by the poster above, Paraty would be a great place for you to spend a few days, as my wife and I did last year. For details and photos see the "Southeastern Brazil" section of Our Travel Journals website: -snip-

Hi Sophie

I am from Rio and I have travelled a lot for this places (North of São Paulo coast and south of Rio coast).

You can look for information on the web about Baia de Ilha Grande. It is a large bay in the south of Rio de Janeiro state. here are about 360 island in this bay and you can visit these island renting a fisherman boat in Angra dos Reis. It is pretty easy to go from Rio bus station to Angra and from Angra to Paraty, and southward... the bus is usaually confortble and cheap. The Ilha Grande island is a magic place and there is paths for tracking all around the island but it is a little bit hard to walk around this island bacause it is quite big.

The Ilha Grande Bay is rounded in the continent by the Serra do Mar hills, that are beatyfull as well and there are a lot of waterfalls and places to go.

please let me know if you want to know more...
