Any word in particular, Mikey - or the whole lot?? It's okay. Christmas is just around the corner and we've gotten you a nice Oxford dictionary set.

Still, it's confusing, whether or not you're bothered by titles. When a person is titled 'Travel Guru', one would expect that there would be some evidence of their travels, yet there is at least one person on TP with this title who has no blogs, no photos, no maps, nothing exept a lotta lotta posts and apparently a lotta lotta time on their hands. How does this fit in with the 'start contributing and you too will achieve blah status' advice, when those of us who upload pics and blogs from far away are still doing so in an apparently budding manner?

As a few people have said, it's really more of an indication of time spent/activitiy on the site right now than anything else. But your points are precisely why the system is going to change. So just look at the titles as something temporary. Now that the massive blog update is out of the way, this is one of the first things on the 'to do' list. I'd think along the lines of the titles becoming less prominent or even non existent, with other things indicating ones level of helpfulness on the site. It's one of the oldest parts of this site so is somewhat behind the times in terms of the growth in member numbers.

That said, no matter what the new system ends up being, you can be sure that people are not going to be happy with it too

I find it kind of funny how to some people a simple title makes them feel good about themself. What's in a title anyway, its just a fancy name tag. I know a lot of you will disagree with that but ????? I would rather be judged on my merit, integrity, input and hard work than on a title.

Exactly. I couldn't agree more.

By the way, please feel free to call me "sir" from now on.

aww I like the titles! :( and even though its only a bit of fun I do think it encourages people to become more active on the site if they can see their points building up.

WOW!! Hi guys my internet was down for a while, so I couldn't end this sooner! I truly am sorry to all the moderators and guru's like 'mel' who try hard to be helpful and not waste times on stupid posts like this one I started.
Honestly I was Completely JOKING!!! I had no Idea any one would take this seriously! I agree fully with all of you that the titles are irrelavent! I hope you don't think that i really care that much about this as I said in my original post. I only hope to be a 'guru' or whatever by helping others as much as i possibily can!

As for why I can travel so much. some one posted correctly that my family and I are missionaries and are self employed. (at times we stop and all work jobs). But were are avalaible to travel 365 if we want to. This does not mean that I think that I am a 'better' or more experienced traveler!! Like some one said Most of you have been on this planet long before I came along!!

Once again SORRY!! i hope i didn't cause too much trouble!!

I think u are going to have a lot in common with me Watchdog.
Sometimes I say something that I think is funny and think everybody else will think it is too.
Then I come back an hour later and there are 20 posts of serious conversation about people seriously agreeing or disagreeing with what I said.

Titles are a bit spurious anyway - just have fun! I liked to think of myself as a specialist once until it was explained to me that a specialist is someone who learns more and more about less and less until he knows all there is to know about absolutely bloody nothing!
