Ok heres my problem - I CANNOT SLEEP! It has been going on for about 2 - 3 weeks now and lm about to loose the plot! I used to be up in the morns and in work before 8am, full of the joys of spring - now l can hardly drag myself out of bed - even though l havent slept the night before - or not a proper sleep!

Ive got a few things going on - started a post grad course - 8 hours a week at night along with a 40 hour week job, lm waiting on work being completed in my house - new kitchen so the place is upside down, and dont get me started on my personal life!!!! So yes l do have things on my mind!

I HATE baths cant relax in them - dont get the lieing for hours with candles etc - find it bores me! Ive tried aromatherapy oils (lavender) to induce sleep, l hate the thought of going to see a GP to get drugs - lve got herbal nytol stuff though which l use for jet lag so l will give that ago tonight! Joined the gym this week to see if that tires me out! I sit up and have a glass of wine so that l go to bed tired - as soon as l hit the pillow - my mind springs into action - but l wouldnt necessarily say lm worrying over things!

BUT - l know its become noticable at work - lm a cranky bitch from hell (more so than usual yes!) - but all l want is a good nights sleep - anyone got any sure fire ways of getting even a half decent nights sleep!

THANKS - a very desperate

Heather

Same thing hapens to me quite often. If I can't sleep, I get up and surf the net until my eyes are falling out of my head.

One other thing that really works is to write down on a piece of paper the things that you achieved that day, and the things you want to achieve the next day.

Writing them down sort of creates closure in your mind on things that may, even unconsciously, be keeping you awake.

Have you tried reading a book (e.g. Economics 101 ) before you sleep?

Another way is to watch TV. It works for my mum.

I think u are right to avoid drugs.
According to my exboyfriend u get a nights sleep with them, but dont wake up feeling so great. A doctor precribed them for him, when his father died. Doctors often seem to go for the easy answer.

Personally I think u are going to have to try to relax. Off load anything that does not have to be done immediately, for at least a few days. Even take a sick day or two off work.

I usually contact a professional counsellor on the internet, if there is a personal problem I cant solve. They are excellent and will answer an email question for 15 Euros. They seem to be able to pinpoint problems I cant see myself, in my own life. If u think contacting them is worth a try, let me know and I will give u the contact details.

Thanks Mel - the problems arent that great that l need counselling - l know the answers to them and l know what to do!!

I just need to get a good nights sleep and then start putting in action the things l have to do! Get into a routine with the school work and that!

Im going on holiday at the end of the month for a month practically so at least lve got that to look forward to and my new kitchen will be in by the end of the month!

Like you said l need to relax - lm taking tomorrow afternoon off work and lm gonna finish painting my hallway - thats so mundane it should tire me out!!

The counsellors are just like asking a friend, except the counsellors are trained to give solutions that work. Friends just give their personal opinion.
Anyway, asking the counsellors a question is nothing like going for therapy or to a psychiatrist. They are also reassuring, when I am wondering if I am doing the right thing or not.:)

But yeah, getting some time to relax will probably be all it takes to get u back to sleeping properly.;)
