I am going to be in new zealand at the beginning of the year, and will be there for 2 months. I was thinking the best thing to do about transportation was to buy a cheap car, then sell it right before i went home. Is this a common thing to do, or does anybody know about doing something like this?
yep this is a common thing for people to do but then you have to worry about selling it again in a hurry before you leave.
I would personally do this in the north island but hitch-hiking is safe and often good fun for the south island.
the problem is that if you get a cheapy it might break down and cost you more than its worth which would be a hassle.
How much have you got to spend?
oh yer hint for some good NZ beats be in Wanaka for Rippon Festival first weekend of feb- best time you'll have in NZ, have a look at website
im not sure how much i will have, its the last leg of my trip. but i dont want to be in a position where i am stuck with a car that i cant sell. i guess i have a little time to think about things. thanks for the advice and i will check that website out for sure, those festivals are always fun!
And by the way.... there's a lot of cheap car and camper rentals in and around the biggest cities... and if you have a camper you don't have to worry about accomodation either
