and least but not least what is the average amount of moeny that i will prob need??
Any advice will be a big help!
I'm a Brazilian living in Peru! I work here for a travel agency and it's gonna be a great pleasure to help you with info about the whole continent.
If you wish, you can send me an email.
As you said, what place on earth is not unsafe? The point is not looking too much like a tourtist and most of all, respecting people! My backpacking experienes all turned out really awesome once I had that in mind!
About booking/arranging things in advance or not, my experience tells me it depends on one's budget, time and the places one may want to visit. Low budget backpackers usually do things in the meantime, for they have a little more time to spend. On the other hand if you want to take the Inca Tail to Machu Picchu for instance, you may book it at least 2/3 months prior to trail departure and so on...
As I told you, if you want specific details, send me a mail.
thanks very much for the info i will deffo be e-mailing you in the near future for some more help!
Im in the middle of my trip around southamerica, and it was my first time backpacking solo! Over 3months down the line, all i can say, is YOU WILL LOVE IT! yes, it is as dangerous as any other places in the world (i havent had any problems at all), also yes, it is very useful when you speak spanish, it will help u a lot! and also yes, there are plenty of opportunities for voluntary work, and it depends what are you interested in , you are probably better off arranging it once you are over here (otherwise they will try to charge for the arrangements!)
As for where to go... uff! that is a tough one, there is so much to do and see! but with six months, you have plenty of time to get a good feeling of the continent! and travel a lot!! Make sure if you are going to south argentina or chile that you do it the first thing (otherwise youu'll frezze your ass!) and try to avoid the rainy season in peru and bolivia (or better say, travel there in the dry season, jun-sept) if you can. Also make sure you pack for estreme heat if you are going anywhere in the amazon, and extreme cold for bolivia, peru and patagonia.
Anyway, you are gonna have the time of your life, at least im having it! And if you are responsible, and dont act too much as a "gringo" you will be just fine!
Let me know if i can help you!
