I was wondering if Australia has rules on shops opening on sunday, like we do in the UK? I know in the states, that walmart is open all hours, when visiting one at 3am in the morning.

It varies from state to state (or territory). All of the big businesses like Woolworths, Coles, Myer, Target, Kmart etc (places simlar to Walmart, Tesco, Marks & Spencer etc) will be open on Sunday, but depending on where you are a lot of the smaller places either wont be open or will only be open for a short period of time like 10am-12 noon or similar sort of hours. Even in the places that are a lot more touristy like Surfers Paradise not everything is open on Sunday. In smaller cities this is still the case even on Saturday's, because the place I work for is only open from 10am-12noon on Saturday and closed on Sunday because it just isn't financially viable to be open.
