Travel Forums Asia Itinerary suggestion for 10D in Philippines

I'll be leaving for a short trip to Philippines at the end of January next year.

I need suggestions for things to do during the 10 days. I've got Boracay and Puerto Galera on my list already. Anywhere else that I should go? I don't mind travelling by plane.

Heard Banaue is interesting, but I do not want to spend too much time travelling on the road it is only reachable by land, am I right??

Please help =).

Regards,
Audrey

How about Boracay and Bohol as well as Manila. Whilst in Manila take a day trip to the Taal volcano. Quite interesting.

Thanks Dave for the advice. I'll be arriving in Manila where I plan to spend couple of days before embarking on Boracay and Puerto Galera. Whatabout the northern part? Any idea?

Thanks.

Audrey

In the North head to Sagada. The Hanging Coffins are good to see, and the caving is great fun with some nice treks in the area as well.

Also Banaue is also really nice for the amazing rice terraces.

Here's a link with some photos http://akungescapades.wordpress.com/.

PM me if you want to know a cheap but good place to stay in Sagada.

Watch out for some of the government sponsored treks etc. The one to the hanging coffins is a rip off. Just take the trail behind the main church and through the graveyard. You will make it to the coffins in 15mins with no need to give away 200 pesos for the privilege.

I never appreciated Manila, Until I reached Hanoi and parts of Cambodia.

1. What is in Manila? GIANT shopping malls, Asia's largest malls. Boring? But that is part of local culture.

2. Visit Malate for the night life.

3. Check out Intramuros, or what should be called, " The ruins of Intranuros". Its the walled city built by the Spaniards.

4. If you feel like a historian or want something a bit scholarly, visit the Corregidor island. There is a ferry near the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Nothing much to see... But most Filipinos are beautiful and they speak English.

5. Puerto Galera- is a poor man's boracay. Its cheaper to get there from Manila than to go to Boracay. Nothing special, unless you are there to meet people or do some scuba diving.

BORACAY is a must.... In my opinion, the island lacks character. But it has powder sand beaches, beautiful people from all over the world, torquiose waters, and some parties. But it lacks character or identity. I heard its beaches are better than Bali or Phuket, but those island have character.

Other interesting places, Cebu and Bohol.... they have nice beaches. If you want to go to Mindanao, go to Davao. Voted one of the most liveable cities in Asia.

10days in January.. hmmm.. best time to come as it's cooler at this period..

In Manila, make sure you visit Intramuros. And yes visit Tagaytay City and Taal Volcano.

Boracay is a beautiful place. Take South East Asian Airlines so you can reach Boracay with less travel time.

Puerto Galera is reachable from Manila via bus to Batangas Port then an hour boat ride to the Galera. I'd suggest you take MV Brian to White Beach.. they have outrigger boats (jetty) with capacities of up to 40pax and they dock directly on White Beach unlike the ferries that dock on Muelle Bay at the town center..

At the north on Luzon, you can have a dune adventure at Mt. Pinatubo and visit it's crater.

You can also fly to Vigan and see the old Spanish town there. It's the most preserved Hispanic town. A few hour drive from Vigan, is a UNESCO world heritage site... Paoay Church.

And yes, sadly that Banaue's Rice Terraces, also a UNESCO site, is reachable by a 10hr bus ride from Manila. But the experience is spectacular.

Also you can go to the northernmost province of Batanes. A beautiful island group which is very much less travelled by even locals.

You may also fly to Puerto Princesa on the island of Palawan to see the longest underground river, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. Currently among the top 10 in the new 7 wonders of the world. Along with Chocolate Hills on the island of Bohol in the Visayas island group.

Anyways aside from the hills of Bohol, the island also has one of the best beaches in country plus it's a site to find the smallest primate, the tarsier.

my.. seems like 10 days is not enough.. but just take your pick on these places...

just to add... you can also visit Subic Bay..

Before this goes further on, I just want to let you all know that Audrey wanted to go there in January 2008. She started this thread about 10 months ago.
