Hi All,

I'm travelling to South America from Nov 2007 until Feb 2008. Heading into Ecuador, then prob through Peru and Bolivia over about six weeks. Planning to spend the rest of my time in Argentina.

I am on the hunt for some suggestions as to where I should stop. I really want to take a dance class somewhere for a couple of weeks (preferably in the more modern styles such as reggaeton etc) and would like to spend the rest of my day on a beach.

If anyone could suggest somewhere where i could live a nice little lifestyle for a while i'd be really appreciative.

Thanks very much.
kk

Together with Bolivia and Paraguay, Argentina imo is the worst SA destination in terms of beaches. Some people like the beachtowns on the southern coast of Buenos Aires (Miramar, Pinamar, Villa Gesell, Necochea, Mar del Plata), but it's all slightly run-down, extremely busy and, well, 'cheap'. I suggest you consider Uruguay or Brazil instead; think it much better suits your wishes.

Probably because Bolivia and Paraguay are not on the coast.

I agree on Argentina though its not a good place for beaches however speak to some locals in Buenos Aires and there are some places you dont hear about much that people will tell you about.

Being an Argentinian, I should encourage you to visit argentinian beaches. But i personally donĀ“t like them. Water is cold and prices are not "that cheap"(relatevely talking).

So should recommend you to visit brazilian beaches. Florianopolis and Camboriu are "close" to Argentina and Paraguay. Then you can also visit Rio, Buzios, Salvador, Fortaleza.

If you look for beaches where you can walk endless, then it is Uruguay.
There is Cabo Polonia, the village in the dunes.
a small hippy comunity lives there,no electricity, you can rent there a small cabana.
I have photos of the place in my TP gallery.
you can take the buccebus from BA to Montevideo and from there you take the bus.

i arrived in Peurto Madryn yesterday and have just came back from a walk on the beach..

the sand isnt that fine on the beach and the water looks relatively cold (in saying that it does seem swimable and there was a handful of people sunbathing)...

on the plus side of it tho we could see 2 whales flapping about in the water...

if you are looking for sandy beaches id suggest heading up the north coast of Brasil or going to some of the islands like ilha grande or paratay ....

i spend 10 days in BsAs and it was more than enough, its all you would expect from a big city, noisey, polluted and lots of poverty, however, there seemed to be a few travellers that were staying there specifically for dance classes...

hope this helps
