Hey All,

I will be traveling around Asia BY MYSELF! in November and December.

I will be hitting the following places:

Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia - Bali, and I might do Australia. PLease give me suggestions on these places. I will be traveling by myself, so I am hoping to meet other travelers also, who I can hang out with.

Please also let me know if these places are safe for a girl to travel by herself?

Thanks,

Barbara

Barbara,
Most travellers arrive in BKK and go from there. If you hit the Khao San Road area in BKK, you won't be alone for long. There are plenty of girls in your age group bouncing around SEA. If you are outgoing at all, you will meet other BPers at your guesthouse, restaurants, tours, sightseeing, etc. Just be open to meeting others and you will have someone to travel with if you so choose. I predict you will alter your route because you meet up with others that you want to hang with. I stayed in the Krabi area another week because I met a UK girl. We hit it off and did some island hopping together. This will happen to you as well. We meet others while on the road and take another path than we originally planned. I met my present GF walking down the street in DaLat, VN. You just never know!

I have many photos of SEA in my gallery that might help with your planning. Send me a PM if you have specific questions

hi Barbara,

It is absolutely safe for a girl travelling alone in Thailand, singapore, malaysia, etc.

I had been to SEA with my wife two months back. It was absolutely safe for her to travel through the streets even at night.

Ironically in thailand we males are at risk of being targetted by the professional ladies hovering around at every corner:)

cheers and have a nice trip
Arif

Arif,
This is true. However I decided it was a plus, not a negative! What guy does not want to be hailed; 'Handsome man, I go home with you!

Hello Barbaracak:)

Of the ones from your list I have only been to Thailand.
That is certainly safe for a girl.
In fact, it is the only country in the world where I have never experienced sexual harassment.

Have u got a good travel guide book?
If not I suggest u get South East Asia on a ShoeString, by Lonely Planet. It costs around 26 Euros and can be found in most bookshops around the world. It will give u lots of information and help u decide what u would like to do and where to go, in the various countries.

Vegas,

It is a plus only when ur hailed as "Handsome and strong man" by the gals. In Pattaya, i went for a massage, unfortunately all the girls were busy so i was allotted a man, who hardly had the characteristics of a male. He began his work in high spirits but soon he hailed me as " Strong man with a dimpled smile". I had to resist him strongly as he started getting more and more adventurous and massaged into unchartered territory;)

Arif,
I would have walked out the door when it was apparent you were not going to be massaged by a female. Spot of bad luck there.

hi Barbara,

The moment u started the thread, we(Arif, Mel and Vegasmike) responsed and tried to answer the queries u raised.

Since there was no response from u for more than a week, the discussion drifted to unchartered territory. Hope u participate actively in ur future thread.

If our replies has not satisfied ur queries, feel free to ask anything u wanna know

Cheers
Arif
