I am going to Krakow in January. I know about the touristy things in the city and excursions to auschwitz and the salt mines. I was just wondering if anybody had seen anything worthy of seeing out of the normal of the tourist itinerary?
Also I usually just grab a hostel but since I am going with me lady I was wondering if anyone could suggest decent priced hotel/apartment that they have stayed in? Call me rodney
go to nowa huta, its a masterpiece of soviet architecture
Me and my friend were there in Krakow this summer. We went to Auschwitz, it was a shock to the system but so worth while visiting. i wouldn't book the package excursion though. We got the train (about one hour away and about 7 trains run through out the day) You walk about 10 mins to the camp from there. Once there it was definatly worth while to pay for a Local guide.
The saltmines were good, but nothing amazing in my book. We hired bikes around the city, which was nice. A bit of advise too, Krakow was beautiful, and really historic but on a Sunday most things are closed because 90% of the population are at church!
Hope you have a good time.
