I've been to Thailand several times before (it's usually me answering the questions, not asking), but it's always been between April and June - a fairly low season for tourism. My style is normally to arrive either solo or with my girlfriend and find all accommodation and transport on the day and plan things as I go along.
This timem arriving in Thailand on Dec 22 for the holiday period, a around however I feel like a newbie because of two factors - a) I'nd b) I'm going to be with a group of between 6-10. |
Ideally, we would love to find a few beautiful beach bungalows not far from Had Rin, somewhere in the 500 baht range where we can all spend the week partying it up at the Full Moon / Christmas/ New Years parties. Yeah, not too likely eh. So what are our realistic options? What is the chance of finding anywhere decent and relatively cheap if we arrive on Koh Phagnan on Christmas Eve? Doesn't have to be Hadd Rin, anywhere on the Island is fine. I quiet like Thong Nai Pan. How about other Islands or beaches? I was thinking an option is to head somewhere quieter for Christmas, and then just taking day/night trip to Koh Phangan for New Years. Won't need accommodation since we have no intentions in sleeping while there.
I love Koh Tao and it's close enough that we could do a day trip to Hadd Rin for New Years. But is it quiet enough at Christmas to allow walk-in planning, or at least cheap online bookings? How about Krabi? I'm not too interested in Samui, Lanta, or Phuket, and I'm assuming Phi Phi would be pretty packed at that time right?
And finally, what's Bangkok like leading up to Christmas? Is my normal strategy of arriving in Banglamphu at 11pm and checking out a few hotels around Rambuttri Street going to work on Dec 22? Or is everyone and their dog down on the Islands at that time.
Thanks for the help,
