My wife and I started to do a totally different slant on travel photography by photographing lost and abandoned solo shoes lying on the sides of the highways and byways of America while travelling full time in our motorhome. Check out my profile to see some of the photos, we are currently at 196 and counting. We are looking for comments to see what people think of our idea. Thanks

I think you are mad and embarrassed to share my surname with you.
Actually, I think that is a pretty cool idea and good luck with your book!

A friend of mine lost a shoe, a Merrel sandal, it floated off down the Nile. I would love to hear the stories of how all these shoes were lost!

I have several stories from people telling me how they lost a shoe. For instance, I lost one when the bikes on the back of the motorhome were banging against the side making scratches and alot of noise, I decided to tie a shoe on the handlebar to stop the banging. When I got to our destination the shoe was gone :( Somewhere out on route 66. The road i traveled for a hundred miles looking for a shoe but never found one. How ironic huh?

Thanks for the good comment, safe travels. Mr. Hamilton I assume :)

why don't take images of living creatures rather than tese boring subjects?

[ Edit: This is indeed an inflammatory statement. But art is often inflammatory. I'll allow it on that basis. ]

Please if this violated the rules, please delete it asap. And I apologize as I did not mean to generate sales from the post, but get opinions from other photographers. My apologies if I offended anyone.

oneshoe: what you posted is absolutely fine (imo, although the big embedded url in the photos is perhaps a bit too much, but that's for the photo moderators to decide; I know it can be hard to effectively "protect" the image without it being taken as advertising).
However, what was reported just above was kombizz's reply, which was negative to the point of being inflammatory, which is very much not allowed on these forums. (Although a moderator will still need to agree that it really was inflammatory - right now it's only been flagged as such to bring it to their attention.)

As for the photos themselves, I like the concept. Looking at them, my favorite ones are those which have a bit more context to tell a story (such as the painted over shoe on the road), rather than the closeup ones (such as the spongebob sandal).
However, I can't help but feel that some of these photos look 'staged' (note that I'm saying "look", not that I think they "are"). The shoes appear in rather good condition in unlikely locations (a sandal half-buried in the sand is much more likely than one standing on top of it) - but maybe that's just because the "one in a million" shots are the ones you uploaded here to travellerspoint...?

This is just great, a photo theme which is pretty unique, at least here on TP.
Agree with Sander about number 158 (with the yellow stripe) and for some reason the first on your profile has number 79 (half of 158) and I like that one as well, with the truck in the background. I guess number 237 will be great as well...;)
Hope to see some more in the near future. Keep up the good work!
Michael

I love this work!! Great story telling. The shoe is so much a symbol of travel and adventure. And your work represents a lot of the random and interesting meetings which occur on the road and are what travel is all about. Well done !!

Have a look at your own photos first Kombizz, I still find shoes much more interesting than a toilet
