Hi Monkey

What most backpackers on the RTW thing seem to do is get a one year WHV for either Oz or Nz. It's a pretty straightforward process and as long as you are under 30 you can apply. Getting work in places like Asia or South America is more difficult and obviously less well-paid, so working in either Oz or NZ allows you to save quite a bit for onward travel.

There's always an option to teach English as a foreign language. This is well paid in China, Japan and South Korea and doesnt usually require a TEFL qualification. If, however, you want to teach in Europe or parts of South East Asia you will usually need a TEFL cert. South America varies, but you can get work just by being a native English speaker.

In addition, it's easy in some countries to pick up a few hours work here and there in hostels. A lot of people do this in NZ. In exchange for a couple of hrs a day changing bedsheets etc, you can get free accommodation. Odd jobs like that are really handy to just make your money stretch out a bit. :)

Hiya im going to do it, i leave november 28th for france to work 5 months doing the ski season in the french alps. they pay a weekly wage into ure bank account and give u euros in cash for food so for 5 months is easy to save money, iv estimated that after the 5 months that ill have £2000. (they pay for flights to and from france to).

then straight after that in April 2008 i am going to china to teach hopefully either a 3 month or a 6 month contract. Iv already got that job kind of lined up (they offered it to me before when i couldnt go and they sed to let them know when i can go so ill contact them neaer the time.). Again this is free accomodation, a high wage for living in china and you can travel around at the weekends. Should have a bit of money at this point to travel for a while and then from here i dont know what im doing, but wil ant to find work somwhere else in the world................... (and not OZ or NZ bcoz iv been there done that).

But yeah thats what im doing. oh im not flyng to china either im going the trans siberian.

ure age dont stop you form working the ski season or teaching english in asia
