del23mar has indicated that this thread is about Costa Rica

Hello,

I've searched and read trough many threads on this great forum, but I haven't found exactly the answers I've been looking for. So if you can sacrifice a minute or two to assist me and my travelbuddy with some answers to the following questions, we would highly appreciate it!

We're touching down in San Jose on the 28th of November and would like to go directly to a beach to do some surfing. We're both totaly green when it comes to surfing, and need to get some tutoring. I've looked at several places, like Tamarindo to Puerto Viejo and so on...

- What part of Costa Rica is preferred this time of year, the pacific or the caribbean side, considering the rainy season and surfing?
- Any beaches and/or surf tutoring companies to recommend?
- The fastest way to get there?

We would also like to do a canopy tour and see an active volcano.

We're heading up through Nicaragua to Honduras for the rest of our vacation. We probably have about 12-10 days to get there.
- Any tips or advice on travel routs that we might appreciate?

Rotàn seems like a nice place to spend the last days before we depart from San Pedro Sula in Honduras.
- Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hallvard :)

Hi,
ok - November is the start of the dry season - so you should miss all this rain that we are having right now!!
Costa Rica has many surfing beaches - some are for more experienced surfers..
Also some places are very commercialised - doesn´t feel very Costa Rican!
I would recommend Samara - a nice little town on the Nicoya Peninsular which has a sheltered bay and constant year round surf.
there is a great surf school called C and C surf school - and 10% of the money you pay for lessons goes to a local conservation project with marine turtles.
check out www.samarabeach.com
the best volcano to visit is Volcan Arenal - the most active in costa Rica. You can stay in La Fortuna which is the nearest town, there are plenty of hostels etc.
In La Fortune there is much to do - white ewater rafting, canopy tours, hiking, waterfalls horseriding etc etc. There are lots of tour agencies offering these tours.
there is an internaional bus that travels all of Central America. Check out www.ticabus.com
you can go straight to Tegucigalpa from San Jose - or stop in Nicaragua on the way.
If you want to go to the bay islands - i prefer Utila. It is not so "gringo" as Roatan!!
Also a nice place on the Honduras coast is Trujillo - very tranquilo and nice beaches.
i hope this helps

Hi howz it going. I wish I could be more helpful, but on these specifics I am not too sure on what to tell you.

One thing for sure is if you want to take Thee Best canopy tour in Costa Rica you absolutely must go to Salvatura Canopy Tours in Monte Verde!!!!! It is By far the longest, safest, funnest, highest, fastest, coolest and best staffed in all of central America!! It is easy to get to and find!
As far as active volcanoes, are you going to Guatamala? Volcan Pacaya is very active and really cool!

I could tell you a few places in Honduras NOT to go( see my post new running story). but thats about all. I offer my help more to travelers than tourist cuz I just don't do all that kinda stuff unless I happen upon it! UNNO?

Hopefully I might be able to help more in the future,

JJ

Hi,

I am Nuria from Barcelona, Spain, and I am considering spending a month in Costa Rica, from the 27th october till the end of november. I still havent got the tickets, and I would be travelling alone, so my question is...

what do you recommend I do? Is it safe to travel alone there? Is there any specific forum with people that are travelling there?

If there is anyone interested in joining me, just drop me a line!

Utila is in Honduras - one of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea. Excellent diving can be found in Utila. I wasn't there, but in nearby Roatan.

For more information on Utila, I would check out the About Utila site. You might also want to check out the Roatan Forums board, which is a forum site dedicated to the Bay Islands (mostly Roatan, but they should be familiar with Utila).
