My girlfriend and I will be meeting in Germany for the Winter Holiday, and we were trying to decide on a place to go for New Year's Eve. Any recommendations that would be a plane/train ride away from Germany?

Okay...I know it's not Minsk (never been there), but I was in Paris for millennium new years and had a GREAT time. But hell, Minsk sounds great too!

ok yeah Minsk - maybe not such the place.
Iv been in Reykjavik, Iceland and Brasov, Romania for new years before - both great times. Iceland is a bit COLD! though and by no means a train ride from Germany. I have also heard Paris is really great. granted most of the big cities wil big up new years im sure.
Prague? Budapest?

If you really want to leave Germany you can try Venice - it has charm in winter and good carnivals. Or a bal in Vinnese opera is a nice tradition. You could also spent New Years Eve in one of the German castles - I have spent the Millenium night in Bavaria in a fairy tale castle with deep snow, horse carriages and stuff like that.
