I had to spend the night at Schipol a few years ago because of a massive storm that passed over western Europe. I was really pissed off at the KLM staff cos there was no info beforehand; they checked us in and we later found out that they knew at that time that we were going nowhere. We sat at the gate with a few others who had come for the flight and no one showed up to board us, we had to go hunting for a KLM rep to tell us what was happening. Eventually we were herded into some lounge where you take one of those little paper tickets with a number like 872 and look dismayingly at a little sign ont he wall that says something like "now serving customer number 6".

Eventually we accepted that we were stuck and we bedded down for the night on some benches taking it in shifts to sleep so that the luggage didn't go walkies. It was actually ok until we were woken up by a group of American tourists who had landed and found out they were going no further and decided to start shouting across the terminal building waking pretty much everyone up.

We slept in Singapore's budget terminal one night as we were too stingey to pay out for a room in Singapore...not hugely comfy but we had ear plugs (to drown out the supermarket music) and eye masks from our last Qantas flight. We put on our hoodies, wrapped ourselves in sarongs as the air con is super fierce and had an all right night's sleep! The tips are pretty good on the site and quite funny! I think sleeping in an airport is something that is done at least once on a RTW...

Now sleeping on the street in the middle of Tupiza, Bolivia is another matter!

When i was away working for an event in Singapore, i slept 2 nights in Singapore Airport and took a nap under a help desk. Slept in BNE airport for 1 night. All because of delayed flights. But this guide is really good!!!

I am still surprised there are very few hostels in or very near to airports, especially the bigger and most important ones. Especially with budget airlines flying at almost impossible times it would be great!

I slepped in CDG's terminal 3 a few years back - the last train from Normandy was at 7 p.m. and my flight was at 9 a.m. the next morning. Yeesh! Anyway, I was too cheap to pay for a 4-hour or so hotel stay, so I slepped petty uncomfortable and shivered in the cold while trying to sprawl across my luggage so I could leep an eye (or an arm) on it. Not the best experience, but I'd do it again if it saved me a little money. Oh, and the French army people with their machine guns ready to fire didn't help, either.
