I was wondering what the cheapest airline / flightroute was to go from Australia or New Zealand to South America (one way ticket). Preferably arriving in Lima, but if for example a flight to Santiago de Chile is cheaper, that's ok.
If anyone can give me some suggestions that would be great.
I have been looking into doing this the other way 'round, and so far it seems as if there's really only a single realistic option (which I wouldn't call cheap by any stretch), namely LAN, flying between Santiago and Auckland. The very cheapest I've seen that flight is $1140 (pretending to be a Qantas flight, but still operated by LAN).
I don't know if it's an option for you, but what I'm probably going to do is to make it a 'round the world ticket, and hop from Lima to Santiago to Easter Island to Papete to Auckland (and then onward).
Note however that I wouldn't call my searches exhaustive yet, so it's possible (if unlikely) for a better option to exist. If anyone knows, I'd be all ears...!

I'm searching for this since I'm trying to avoid buying a RTW ticket. Going from Europe to Australia or New Zealand can be done quite cheaply, but I'm a bit worried about the price for Aus/NZ to South America and from South America to Europe.
Hey there, aerolineas argentina fly sydney/Buenos aeres. Cost me $2300 return to lima. U can only fly to santiago and BA from OZ/NZ unless you go through the US, yuk.
I think some of the smaller airlines do it to, eg, air tahiti, air fiji.. malasia air for $1082 sydney/BA (just checked out the flightcentre website)
Play with you departure dates and which city you fly out of/into, the cheap flights are there, just hard to find.
