I'm not worried about going on my own but I would like to find people that might be going. I've tried emailing Australians on forums to find out about renting a place as the thought of sharing a room with someone is a bit daunting for me. How much do you get paid in general and how much is rent. My working out is $550 rent and earning $2000 per month in general jobs but i might be wrong. :)

Hi!

I've just got back from 18 months in Oz - had an awesome time and am very jealous you are going and I'm not :(

Your rent will depend on where you want to live, how nice the place is and if you want to share a room - I never shared apart from in Hostels. I would highly recommend you spend your first couple of weeks in a hostel - you'll get to meet loads of people and you all might end up travelling/ sharing an apartment etc. Some people I met in hostels are now my lifelong friends :)

My rent in Sydney varied from $150 just outside the city to $200 in Bondi - they were all really nice apartments, clean etc but you can defo expect less for your money living near the beach!

With wages - depends what you do...... $2000 per month is pretty low in wages to be honest.....I earned more like $4000 (after a few jobs) and remember you can claim back a good chunk of you tax as we get taxed at a stupidly high rate.

Get your medicare card and your Tax file number as soon as you arrive!!!!!

Happy travels - contact me on this if you need anymore info

Thanks Mumba! Hey why don't you do New zealand next :D, Im scared of hostels as anyone could be sleeping with you and I dont want to be attacked or get my suitcase stolen from my room :D, can you lock them away? I really would like to make friends over there so if that's the place to make them then I should really think about doing it. Maybe buy single room. :)

It's a serious question, I hope I didn't sound a joke :(

Wow, I need to become a tourist. $4000 a month is huge compared to what I earn full time in Melbourne with two uni degrees! But that's not the reason I'm here... I have a month off from Dec 14 and intend heading up the coast towards Cairns. If you're going to be here in Jan, shout out!
