hey all, my friend suggested outta the blue that me and him go to s. america around april until sept and just travel around! he reckond we wont have to work as its dirt cheap out there and around 3000 euros would cover us! what dyous think? i had planned on goin to australia first but i like the idea of travelling south america aswell!!
what would the weather be like at that time?? we'd want the hot weather anyway as we dont get much here in ireland!! and would 3000euro really keep us going for 5 or 6 months in s.america??
thanx anyway

Ur best bet is to do some research on google or using a book. I dont think you realise how vast the continent is. The weather/cost will be different wherever you go...put it this way, last week i was sitting on top of a glacier freezing my ass off and a bus ride later i was getting sunburned...and i havent left argentina yet....

as for money, ud probably get through peru, ecuador and bolivia on that but if you plan on doing Brasil and Argentina for example you may need twice that amount...

Hi Vodkababy,

Whats butts says is true. April to Sept will be winter in the Southern Hemisphere so the further south you go in the continent the colder it will be. Patagonia after April can be pretty inhospitable if you dont like the cold. However, Brazil, Peru Bolivia, Venezuela and Colombia etc will all be still be pretty nice. I was in Brazil in July/August and the weather was awesome. :)

€3000 will definitely go a lllllong way in South America. It depends on what kind of traveller you are too. Obviously, if you are eating out and drinking every night, you'll spend it a lot quicker than if you're cooking in hostels etc.
I spent almost over 7 months in South America and I spent around €6000 but that included a trip out to Easter Island, whcih was expensive, a trip down to Ushuaia at the tip of the horn, and lots and lots of activities, tours (Inca Trail) etc. I met people who travelled for the same amount of time on a LOT less than me. ;)

Anyway, you wont be disappointed if you choose South AMerica. It's AMAZING! But if it's heat youre looking for, I'd look at the countries in the north of the continent. The North of Argentina and Chile are still very pleasant until about June, then the weather starts to turn a bit grey.

Hope that helps. :)
