Hey,

I am currently a student living in Germany, and my mother is coming over from the States soon and intends to spend between 10-15 days with me. The only problem is that she doesn't want to stay in Germany for the whole time, ergo my question: Which places would you recommend seeing on the continent if I reside in the vicinity of Wiesbaden? I'm not against going to one place like Paris or something, but is there something closer which would be nice too? Language shouldn't be a problem, for I speak, French, German, and English. Thanks

I don't get your mother at all, since you are in one of the most touristy areas of Germany. You've got the Rhine Valley right in front of your nose and Heidelberg is not too far away either. Go by train to Koblenz and use Rhinland-Pfalz-Ticket, hop on and off along the way. Or rent a car. Taste the wine at local wineyards and look out for the Lorelei. Arrange for a day cruise along the Rhine too. Visit Trier and downtown Frankfurt. Just exploring the region around Mainz will take you a full week. If you do need to visit another country, go to Luxembourg. Or cave in and go to Paris, which is probably what your mother really wants.

For sure, explore surrounding areas in Germany, then either fly or take a fast train into Paris. You can also visit some Castles in Southern Germany such as Neuschwanstein, a must see, then go on to Salzburg in Austria. Then you could fly to Venice, Florence or Rome. Why not make the most of your trip and experience various cultures.

germany is gorgeous, and while i wouldnt blame you for staying in that one area the whole time, its totally understandable that your mum wants to travel a short time and see another culture! thats whats great about europe...

going into the alps is always stunning, of course paris is a must see at least once... if youre prepared to go to paris you could also go to amsterdam - where i live, so i can help you out if thats where you wanna go!
