Julz22 has indicated that this thread is about Canada

my boyfriend and i are going to canada at the end of october for the ski season at big white. we have jobs there but no long term accomadation. we have been offered hostel accomadation but its $475 per month EACH in a 8 person dorm with bunk beds. to us that seems really expensive. we can only afford at the most $600 a month. i was wondering if anyone has worked at big white before for a ski season... where did you live and what other options are there besides hostels and comuting from kelowna. i have exhausted the internet and have asked every travel agent here and rung all around australia asking for help. but no one seems to know anything

really appreciate any help.

Hi Julz
I am doing the same thing. Got a job through OWH that starts 1st Nov and will be arriving at Big White 29/30th october with only a few nights booked at Samesun hostel. I was advised by the employer to just get there with maybe a week booked at the hostel and then as everyone is in the same boat we hook up similar people and get a rental place together and there is stuff advertised at the hostel.
I'm going solo and I'm not worried at all.

yes we are through OWH as well. we went for our interviews in brisbane. we are arriving in vancouver around the 27th oct and start around the 20th nov i think. was thinking about samesun but was wondering if i left it to late id be stuck in a hostel with no other options. what job did you go for?

My friend and I are also heading to Big White for the season. I'm heading over for the job fair in mid-October and she is heading over in November. Neither of us have accommodation yet and I was just going to organise it when I got there.

It seems the thing to do is to stay at the hostel for a few nights and check out accommodation then, maybe trying to meet people who are also looking for accommodation for the season.

Have you heard good things about Big White? What made you choose to go there?

Well being in Perth, WA, I only had the choice to interview with Big White/Silver Star and Lake Louise through OWH, so it wasn't too hard to decide where I'd rather be. I got the job as the merchandiser in the retail stores there so I'm pretty happy about that.
See you guys there hey!

I chose Big White as it wasn't Whistler (from what friends had told me, it didn't seem to be a good fit for me), and also because I met 2 Aussies who had visited and from what they told me I was very impressed. But, I ghuess I won't know myself until I get there.

Has anyone head how much accom outside the hostel will cost per month? Can't find any info anywhere!!

I read in some info from OWH that shared accomadation in Big White might cost between $80-$120 a week (or more...?) per person. so it's not particuarly cheapo but the more people the cheaper.
Spewin they dont have sheap staff accomadation. But i'm sure it'll be easy to sort out once we get there.

im sorry to say but the more ppl you have it doesnt get any cheaper. we are looking at staying at a chalet at the moment and its $475/month EACH! and all you get is a room. now to my way of thinking because we are a couple we shouldnt have to pay as much cos we are in the same room taking up the same amount of space as if i were there alone. so i asked him and he said why charge $500/month when you can charge $475/month each! i wasnt impressed but he has a point and we have no choice i guess.

Hey pples,

I'm also heading to Big White this coming season. I'm going to stay at the hostel for a while until I find something else. From what I understand, most people move into studios or apartments after a while in the hostel. Although I don't think it works out much cheaper, it'd be nicer having your own kitchen/bathroom, etc.

If you want to message me in private about accom or other big white stuff, feel free to drop me an email.

Hey there peeps,
I'm flying over with 2 friends and we'll all be looking for long term accomodation in Kelowna too... Late November to early April...
Anyone found any helpful sites yet?

Dan :)
