I will be in France this December and was planning on skiing the alps while I was here. I will be able to ski between the 5th and the 10th of December. Because I know this is early in the season, I need to find some resorts that will be open. If skiing in France is not promising, is there another alternative, maybe the swiss alps? If so, what would the be ideal skiing location?

Welcome to France
If they have some snow they will open definitely
I've been to tignes, val thorens and les deux alpes in early december 3 times, and i've always had good snow
Some of Tignes will almost certainly be open - there's a big glacier, and skiing most of the summer.
sweet! thanks for the help! Can you get to these places by train? Do you have any idea onthe costs of skiing and renting equipment is?
Bourg St Maurice is the nearest train station to the resort of Tignes and other resorts such as Val D'Isere. If you go on www.tignesnet.com it will provide you with more links and information about the resort.
I noticed for a lot of the skiing websites I have checked out, for accommodation, all the online reservations require a weeks stay. Is this true? Can I only book week long stays and pay outrageous prices if I only wanted to stay 3 or 4 days?
Most places will only book by the week in high season. There is an HI hostel in Tignes though, so you could stay there....
Thank you...that really helps...I was getting quite frustrated working through the french websites (not all was translated) and couldn't figure out if they had hostels there. I will definitely search it! thanks! :D
