Ok people-you have helped me loads over the last year-now my parents need some help.

They are thinking of coming out to Oz to visit me if I manage to get my visa to stay over here-I want this trip to be really great for them-neither of them exactly love travelling-my dads idea of a holiday is to go to a different county in the UK-certainly not to the opposite side of the world!!

The problem I have is their journey here!! They hate flying-so Im trying to convince them to go with a good airline. They have decided they are going to fly business class and have been looking for good deals. They have found one with china eastern airways-but im a bit worried-iv read some bad reviews. Has anyone here travelled with them?? Plus the stop over is in shanghai-again how have people found Shanghai? (Please bear in mind my parents are not inteprid travellers-a week on the Algarve is their usual limit......they even panic at the idea of eating at our local chinese restaurant)

Its really important to me that they have a good trip over here-as I want them to come back!!

Can anyone recommend a good airline where the business class is relatively affordable-we are talking under 2000 pounds return to Australia? They must fly either business or first due to comfort.

Appreciate any help!!

Hi Hels.

Where exactly in the UK do they need to fly from? Where in Oz do they need to get to? Do you have some idea when they would like to travel?

China Eastern are not terrible but I doubt the level of comfort in Business Class would be up to your parents' expectations - it's business class, but not as we know it. I have to say also the one time I flew China Eastern the food was edible enough but it was unmistakeably Chinese food - don't know if that makes a difference.

For £2000 with a reputable airline you're mostly looking at Premium Economy (BA, Virgin or Thai) rather than Business Class which usually starts at about £3000. My aunt and uncle have the same 'comfort requirements' as your folks - they recently flew with Royal Brunei and found it acceptable, I think the fare was about the same as China Eastern (they had a choice between the two). Etihad (the national UAE carrier, have a good reputation) do business class from £2600.

Thanks for that magykal1-id wondered about Royal Brunei as well. From all the reviews i have read I just cant see them enjoying china eastern airways.

MikeyBoab-it doesnt matter where they fly out of the UK from-we live near Manchester but we are assuming they would more than likely have to fly down to London and fly to Oz from Heathrow-thats not a problem. They need to get to Melbourne in Oz-but again its no big issue if they fly to sydney or brisbane and then get a cheap flight down to Melbourne. It will be Easter 2008 when they plan on coming!!

Emirites and Singapore Airlines are two well respected airlines, you could look into these for them :)

British Airways Club class tickets are currently selling from £1750 per person return in March 2008.

I wish BA were-if you look thats only one way!! Just double checked their website.

I would look at a decent airline (that rules out anything Chinese or Russian) and pay for premium economy and minimal stopovers. It might be a bit more expensive, but the flipside is that it will be a reasonably quick trip with minimal layovers.

Could you chip in for a portion of their fares?

Sorry about that Hels.

The best deal I can find is on Emirates for about 2900 return.
