Hello, I fly to Hanoi on the 26th at about 10:30am from Bangkok. On the 25th I want to take an overnight train to Bangkok. What is the best form of transportation to the airport from the train station, and how much time should I allow? Also, should I book my train ticket at the station, or is it pretty much the same at a travel agency? Thank you.

Easiest way is a meter taxi to the airport. Only pay the meter price because it will be less than bargaining the fare.

What time does the train come in? You need to be at the airport a minimum of 2 hours before your international flight, which means 0830. You should be able to make it to the airport within an hour without any traffic tie-ups or accidents. I would allow a little more just in case the train is late or something happens though!

I like to spend the last night in Bangkok before flying out, but that's my preference.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I would stay in Bangkok, but I'll be at the full moon party the night of the 24th, and catching the train the night of the 25th. Is there any other transport options besides a meter taxi? Thanks again.

I'm not sure if any public transports other than taxi goes to the airport. But if you want other option, take a taxi or tuk tuk to Khaosan Rd. From there, take an airport shuttle to the airport.

Meter taxi would be around 300 baht (including tolls) depending on traffic and which way the driver decides to go. DON'T bargain taxi fares - use the meter! If the taxi uses the toll road you have to pay the tolls too, probably no more than 65 baht.

If you have the time - you can take the nearby subway to the Asok Skytrain stop.

Take the Skytrain to the Oh Nut Skytrain stop (last Skytrain stop on line.)

At the Oh Nut station (across the street from Lotus Tesco) there USED TO BE a bus #552 that takes passengers to the airport for 35 baht. I haven't taken that bus in a long time and I can't verify that it is still running. There was a blue sign with an airplane on it that indicated airport bus stop.

If you do reach Oh Nut and there is no bus you can take the meter taxi from that point to the airport (a little cheaper than from the train station.)

Thank you for all your replies. I found some information about an airport bus for 150 baht, straight from the train station. I'll probably just go that route. Here is the link if anyone is in the same situation.

Yes there is an AIRPORT EXPRESS bus that drops off and picks up, but you asked for the best form of transportation, that would still be the meter taxi. No waiting a long time for the taxi and it is available 24 hours a day. Airport Express Bus runs on a set schedule - not 24 hours a day!

If there are 2 of you traveling together, then the price of a METER taxi is about the same as 2 people taking the much slower Airport Express Bus!

Good luck.
