hi,

Well India is quite big and has so many diverse regions which have unique characteristics of their own. What type of holiday would u prefer in india? whether it is Cultural, beaches, mountains, wild life reserves, spiritual

I would be able to advise u more if are more specific about the areas of ur interest, the time u have for india and the budget:)

Yup, India is a pretty big country with thousands and thousands of hotels. And of course Thailand, while much smaller, also has a massive array of things to see and places to stay. Narrowing down where you are going will help. I would recommend starting by buying a Lonely Planet (or other) guide and browsing through to see what these countries have to offer. They will also give you info on hotels. Then when you have an idea of what you want to see and do, we'll be able to assist you with more specific questions. Or, if you give us your interests then we may be able to suggest a few places to go in these countries.

I'd say the more family-friendly areas in Thailand would be:

Chiang Mai (can go trekking/golden triangle/hill tribes/elephants/etc,
Bangkok (I'm sure there's lots to do here if you can put up with the general chaos)
For beaches I'd prob say Phuket/Krabi/day trip to Phi Phi island. May also consider Koh Samui. Koh Phangan would be full of backpackers in their 20's drinking etc, although quieter areas on the island may be nice.
Haven't been to Kanchinaburi (spelling?) but heard it's good for a more cultural insight and nice landscape.

If any of your teenage children are male DON'T take them to Pattaya :P

Our idea is to visit Delhi, Agra, the Punjab and Varanasi in India, we are staying there almost 13 days, and in Thailand we will be for a week, the idea would be to visit the temples, and try in this little time to expirience the countries.
Thank you so much
Thanks

hi,

I would advise u to include Jaipur also, so that u dont miss the golden triangle of the north, Delhi-agra-jaipur

Each of these places are separated by a travel of 3-4 hrs by road. Weather would also be nice and cool during Dec-Jan. From Delhi, u can catch a train to Punjab and visit the border town of Amritsar, see the Golden temple and even go as far as the Indo_pakistan border at Wagah. Trains services are plenty from delhi to Amritsar including the AC Shatabdi express which is comfortable, fast and convenient.

Moving from Punjab u can travel by train to Varanasi, visit the temples and the Ganges ghats and then proceed by train to Kolkata, spend a couple of days in the city and then board ur onward flight to Thailand.

Cheers
Arif

Hey,

I totally agree with Arif to include Jaipur to the list.
Delhi has quite a bit to see. If temples is what interest you, then do
Iskcon temple, Akshardham temple, Birla Temple, Chhatarpur temple, Lotus temple etc.
Agra has a few forts and of course the Taj.
Jaipur is loaded with Forts. You might also want to experience the traditional Rajasthani hospitality at Chowki Dhani (at the outskirts of Jaipur).
You can then go on to Amritsar and follow Arif.
Take a train to Varanasi and visit the temples. mind pickpockets in this small but crowded town.

and fly out of Calcutta / Delhi (almost the same distance from Varanasi) to Thailand.

Have a good one,
Apurva

A week in Thailand, i will suggest you to visit provinces near bangkok.
You can travel to Kanchanaburi for Death Railway, Ayuthaya to see the ancient capital, Lopburi to see the monkey town or Ratchaburi to visit the Floating Market.
There are few interesting temples in bangkok that you can visit. Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew & Marble Temple. These are the famous Temples in Bangkok.
